This work characterizes security as a Fundamental Right derived from a normative concession that confers material and moral conditions that ensure the dignity, survival, and self-determination of subjects. The concept of security was defined as the protection of persons based on ethical content associated with the guarantee of freedom. Employing a qualitative methodology and hermeneutic method, international instruments, the Political Constitution of Colombia of 1991, and sentences of the Colombian Constitutional Court were analyzed. It is concluded that security is a Fundamental Right because there are national and international declarations that protect it and concessions derived from the Political Constitution and sentences that conceive it as a constitutional value, a collective right, and an individual right. Therefore, security is a Fundamental Right associated with dignity, survival, and the development of people’s freedom.
