Este trabajo tiene como objetivo primordial analizar el caso Soares de Melo contra Portugal, describiendo el correcto abordaje que realizó el Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos al resolver el caso, pero analizando también otras variables de discriminación que no fueron analizadas por aquel órgano de Justicia, precisamente porque no fueron planteadas por la recurrente. Se pretende demostrar que, en este caso, subyacía también una discriminación interseccional, basada primordialmente en la pobreza de la señora Soares de Melo.
