Resumen La objeción de conciencia al servicio militar obligatorio en Colombia no fue enlistada como derecho fundamental en el texto original de la Constitución Política de 1991. Durante cerca de dos décadas, el Tribunal Constitucional de Colombia negó su existencia dentro del orden jurídico, hasta el año 2009. En el ámbito internacional, diferentes organismos multilaterales y de protección de derechos humanos concebían la misma y la garantizaban, frente a los Estados responsables de su violación. El propósito de este trabajo, es exponer los estándares internacionales de estos organismos para el reconocimiento y aplicación de la objeción de conciencia al servicio militar obligatorio, comparándolos con los pronunciamientos recientes del Tribunal Constitucional de Colombia.
