En el presente estudio se analiza a la naturaleza como sujeto de derecho y se muestra la conveniencia para el medio ambiente de reconocerla como tal. Al prevalecer en México una postura antropocéntrica, se enfatizan las normas ecocéntricas y los intentos que ha habido en apartarse de una postura antropocéntrica. Haciendo un somero recorrido por el Derecho internacional, mexicano y extranjero, es posible exponer las bases de una propuesta respecto a México para lo que nos hemos inspirado en el modelo ecuatoriano. En dicho modelo hay un reconocimiento a nivel constitucional y ha de destacarse que este prototipo ha generado sentencias provechosas en favor de la naturaleza.
