Este artículo pretende hacer un análisis del gobierno de coalición en el derecho constitucional mexicano, con el fin de determinar los cambios que esta figura sufre cuando se trasplanta de un régimen parlamentario a uno presidencial. Se analiza la figura plasmada en la Constitución Política de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos y en la Constitución Política de la Ciudad de México y de ahí se determina que, mientras que en el parlamentarismo se usa el gobierno de coalición para constituir gobierno, en el presidencialismo mexicano se usa para tener gobernabilidad y su utilidad se encuentra en hacer frente a contextos de fragmentación política. Aunque nunca se ha usado en la práctica, se habla del ejemplo del Frente Ciudadano por México, donde el gobierno de coalición se usó de eje para constituir la coalición electoral respectiva.
